Wachler presented "The New Audit Landscape: MICs, MACs, RACs and the Impact on Physician-owned Hospitals" at the Physician Hospitals of America (PHA) Annual Conference in Keystone, CO. The presentation also covered Zone Program Integrity Contractors (ZPICs). Recovery Audit Contractors (RACs) are government contractors paid on a contingency basis to recover Medicare overpayments to health care providers and to identify underpayments. Medicaid Integrity Program contractors perform a similar role in relation to the Medicaid program. Medicare Administrative Contractors process Medicare claims. ZPICs are fraud investigators who also conduct post-payment audits for Medicare.
