IRVINE, CA, September 14, 2011 /Government PR News/ -- The Alzheimer's Association, Orange County Chapter will hold its first county-wide rally to encourage O.C. to take action in the fight against Alzheimer's disease and reclaim the future for millions. The event will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 4-6 p.m. at The District at Tustin Legacy.

This is the community's chance to learn about current legislation that affects us and provides a forum for citizens to speak out. The community is encouraged to wear purple - the color of Alzheimer's awareness that day - to work, to school, to the rally.

In addition, the rally will celebrate members of our community who are taking heroic action in the fight against Alzheimer's. Receiving special recognition are Orange County law enforcement and emergency responders heralded for their work ensuring the safety of those with Alzheimer's who wander and become lost.

Their efforts are part of the Alzheimer's Association, MedicAlert +Safe Return program. The consequences are significant. Six in 10 people with Alzheimer's disease will wander, 50 percent of all wanderers not found within a 24-hour period will not be found alive.

Orange County has been proactive to ensure the safe return of those with Alzheimer's, and as of June 30, 2011, the Orange County Safety Services Advisory Committee had implemented the following training:

Law Enforcement:
Police - 2,215 Officers Trained
Sherriff - 900 Deputies Trained
Neighborhood Watch - 40 Individuals

Fire Authority:
Fire Divisions - 5 Divisions including 12 Training Officers
Fire Dispatchers - 54 Dispatchers Trained

EMS:
Doctor's Ambulance - 8 EMS Trainees
